Top Performer of the Weekend Sept. 29th - Oct. 2nd

There was a tie for top performer of the weekend:

Bryn Renner and Giovani Bernard (QB and RB UNC)
Renner - 13/20, 230 yards, 4 TDs
Bernard - 24 CAR, 146 yards, 1 TD

These two Tar Heels combined for all but 80 of the total yards for UNC. Both of them also had a part in all the scores for Carolina in its convincing win against ECU. The now 4-1 Tar Heels have been powered all season by the air and ground combo of Renner and Bernard.

Scores from Weekend of Sept. 29th - Oct. 2nd

I went 3-3 this week, here are the scores:

Wake cruises past BC 27-19 - I almost got this one right! Wake hopped on the back of Tanner Price and is now undefeated in ACC play.

Georgia Tech stomps NC State 45-35 - GT defeated its second ACC foe from the Tar Heel state in 2 weeks as Tech ran over the pack with 296 yards on the ground.

Duke squeaks by Florida Int'l 31-27 - Both teams aired out the ball for a combined 727 yards. Despite being down 10 in the fourth, Duke came back for a third straight win.

UNC overpowers ECU 35-20 - Bryn Renner had 230 yards passing and 4 TDs to lead UNC in resounding fashion. UNC also did a good job containing Reggie Bullock to 72 yards, and forcing four turnovers.

Wofford plows past App State 28-14 - The Terriers, behind the running of Eric Breitenstein, ran for 388 yards in a big time win against the Mountaineers.

Panthers fall to the Bears 34-29 - Cam Newton went for 374 yards and 1 TD and Steve Smith had 181 yards receiving, but were unable to take the win. Devin Hester returned a punt for a touchdown and Matt Forte had a career high 205 yards on the ground to lead the Bears.

Predictions for the Weekend of Sept. 30th - Oct. 2nd

Wake Forest @ Boston College
This will be a battle of two of the middle of the pack teams in the ACC. Both QBs like to put the ball in the air so look out for that. I like Wake in this game...WF 27 BC 17

Georgia Tech @ NC State
Fresh off beating State's in-state rival UNC, Georgia Tech will come into Carter-Finley on a roll. Both Quarterbacks love to hit their favorite receivers. GT's offense is 1st in the nation averaging 53.3 PPG. State's defense, that struggled last week, will have trouble stopping the Rambling Wreck...GT 33 NCSU 16

Duke @ Florida International
With a 2 game winning streak, Duke will look to go to above .500 on the season with a win on Saturday. FIU has a strong running game to go with their passing attack that will be having the Duke Defense uneasy all game. FIU will win this game pretty handily...FIU 31 Duke 13

UNC @ ECU
Carolina will look to rebound at "The Dowdy" against an ECU squad that loves to run the ball. If the UNC Defense can contain Bullock it will be a long night for ECU. Bryn Renner will have a good night offensively and will lead the Tar Heels to victory...UNC 37 ECU 20

App State @ Wofford
Since the VT game Appalachian State has had very convincing victories. Even though last week wasn't the best performance offensively, I expect App to come back and do better against a Wofford team that has a poor defense. The Terriers' offense makes up for the lack of defense so it will be an exciting game...App 38 Wofford 35

Carolina Panthers @ Chicago Bears
A match-up of 1-2 teams, Carolina will look to get after Jay Cutler with a weak O-Line. Cam Newton, after a bad week last week, will have a good game facing a Chicago team that is near the bottom of the NFL in Opponents passing yards. That combined with Chicago's inability to run the ball win allow Carolina to grab a good win... Carolina 27 Chicago 10

Players to Watch Weekend of Sept. 30th-Oct. 2nd

I expect these players to have big games this weekend:

Tanner Price (QB WFU) - Last week vs. Gardner Webb, Price went 21/32, 281 YDS, 2 TD. He will be facing a  Boston College Defense that allowed 195 yards last week vs. UMass.

TJ Graham (WR NCSU) - Graham had a great game last week vs. Cincinnati with  7 REC, 176 YDS, 2TD. He will be matched up against a Georgia Tech secondary that gave up 204 yards through the air last week against UNC.

Reggie Bullock (RB ECU) - Last week's Performer of the Weekend had  24 CAR, 169 YDS, 1 TD against UAB, and will facing a UNC Defense that allowed Georgia Tech to rush for 312 yards.

Sean Renfree (QB Duke) - Against Tulane last week Renfree threw for 278 YDS, 1 TD, 1 INT. This week he will be facing a Florida International Defense that allowed Louisiana-Lafayette to have 232 YDS and 3 TD through the air.

The Appalachian State Defense - Scoring both of Appalachian State's touchdowns in its come from behind win against Chattanooga. This wee kit faces a Wofford squad that had 2 turnovers last week vs. Samford.

Charles Johnson (DE Carolina Panthers) - With 3 sacks in the first 3 games of the season, Johnson will be look to get after Jay Cutler. The Bears Offensive Line has allowed a league leading 14 sacks in 3 games.

Be sure to keep an eye on these players for big games this weekend.

Top Performer of the Weekend Sept. 23rd-25th

My top performer of the weekend is:

Reggie Bullock (RB ECU)
24 CAR, 169 YDS, 1 TD

No it's not Reggie Bullock the reserve forward from UNC. Bullock is ECU’s workhorse running back that won Conference-USA offensive player of the week with his standout performance. His touchdown midway through the 3rd quarter gave ECU the lead, and its first win of the season.
